Last half term, Y5/6 learned about the Miners’ Strike in history. The pupils were lucky to welcome a former miner to the school, who spoke passionately about his life working in the mines.
The visit gave pupils an insight into the daily life of a miner, the impact of the strike on families, and the social events that brought the mining community together. Pupils had prepared interview questions in advance, giving them the chance to ask even more about his experiences.
It was a fantastic opportunity to hear firsthand what life was like as a miner and to connect history with real-life experiences.
