Governing Body

J McCreath Mrs Safeguarding Governor (Custom)

Joanne McCreath

Chair of Governors

I have been a Governor at Thrybergh Academy for many years. I started as a parent governor while we were a 3-16 Through School with Foljambe Primary so have experience within the Primary phase of education as well.

I have worked for many years in customer service and management positions. I am currently a full time carer. My caring role has inspired me to learn more around disabilities and inclusion and how to advocate for someone to get the best outcome they can achieve.

I am passionate about education for all and believe all children should have access to good quality education. I want to ensure all children have the ability to achieve their very best and get the outcomes they need to reach their goals.

Vice Chair of Governors

I have been teaching at Wickersley Partnership Trust now for 5 years. I am currently a teacher in Y6 and part of the Senior Leadership Team at Aston Lodge Primary, so I truly understand the importance of having a safe, happy and thriving school environment. I know a lot about teaching and learning within all our schools and I’m hoping I can visit Foljambe a lot to look at all of your brilliant work really soon. My favourite subjects are computing, maths and science!

I have lived locally all my life and often pass Foljambe Primary School on my travels, so I thought that it would be a great opportunity to join your governing body; learning more about the school and all the fantastic things you are doing! I also went to a primary and secondary school in WPT now, so I am really excited to see what you’re all up to this year!

Co-Opted Governor

I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the school governing body. Working with children and ensuring they have the best quality of education they can have has all ways been a passion of mine. I am qualified in working with young children having studied at collage after leaving school. I am a mother of 2 children and 1 of whom has SEN, so i have a very good understanding of how difficult the educational system can be for some of our children. I believe that all children deserve a good quality of education at the own pace. I had a difficult time with my own child under SEN and i would like to be there to help other parents going through the same if i can. My youngest is just about to start school i love this age, they thrive off praise and rewards. I love seeing how proud children are of themselves when they are praised for their hard work no matter how big or small, it boosts their confidence and gives them a positive start to school life. All our children matter regardless of what level they are at when it comes to their education.

Parent Governor

Having lived locally all my life and attending Dalton Foljambe myself as a child, I am looking forward to coming on board the governing body to ensure all our children receive the best quality education they deserve. I have always taken a keen interest in the education of young children and I love to see children’s progression and achievements. I have a CACHE Level 3 diploma in childcare and previously worked within Sure Start settings, providing quality care and play experiences with children aged 0-4, also experiencing working with children with SEN needs on a 1-1 basis.

I currently work as a lunchtime supervisor at a primary school and also do exam invigilating at a local secondary when required. I thoroughly enjoy this as it works around my children’s needs.

Children’s education/future is very important and I hope that my experiences, views and opinions as a parent will help make a difference in the education of Foljambe children and that the Trust works towards connecting with parents and the community.

Support Staff Governor

I started working for Wickersley Partnership Trust around 3 years ago now as an apprentice. They have given me so many opportunities and now a permanent job at Foljambe doing something I love! I have now been given the opportunity to be the staff governor at Foljambe and I am so happy about the chance.

I work as the office administrator at Foljambe Primary School. It keeps me very busy and I love the staff and students I get to see every day! I am so excited to have been given the chance to work with the governing body!

Sue Mitchell

Co-Opted Governor

I joined the Governing Body at Foljambe Primary School following my recent retirement, bringing with me over 27 years of experience in the education sector. Although I had no prior direct connection with the school, I have lived in the neighbouring parish for more than 40 years and have a strong commitment to supporting my local community.

Throughout my career in education, I developed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within schools. I am confident that my knowledge, skills, and experience enable me to make a meaningful contribution to the school’s continued development. As a governor, I am dedicated to working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the wider school community to help create an environment where every child is supported to thrive and reach their full potential.

WHAT DOES THE GOVERNING BODY DO?

The work of the Governing Body is carried out for one purpose only: to give the children the best possible start in their school life, by providing the finest in terms of the education they receive. The Governing Body is made up of the Headteacher, and members of the school community and wider Wickersley Partnership Trust where possible.

The Governors work closely with the Headteacher and meet regularly. Decisions are democratic, with all governors being given as much information as possible to aid them in that decision-making process, ensuring lively often lengthy and healthy discussions prior to decision making. Their work is focused around teaching and learning and in ensuring the school is offering the best possible values for its pupils. The position of school governor is a voluntary one, but it demands a high level of commitment, both in time and responsibility, as the decisions made directly affect the children.

The Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities, they can only act together, they cannot act as individuals.

Governors are appointed to help:

  1. Decide what is
  2. Set standards of
  3. Agree targets for continual school
  4. Interview and select
  5. Monitor and engage with teaching and learning

School Governors can be:

  1. Parents
  2. WPT Members
  3. Community

Become a School Governor

INSPIRE. CHANGE. DEVELOP.

Wickersley Partnership Trust encompasses 13 schools across Rotherham and Gainsborough. It exists to further the interests of the young people it serves.

Becoming a School Governor can have a positive impact on the young people in your local community and help to drive school improvement. A Local Governing Body plays an integral role in a school’s success; working together with senior school leadership and guiding their strategic direction.

Why not give back and help give children and young people the best start in life, whilst developing your own skills in a way which can benefit your career. We like to think of it as a win-win situation!
